Commuting From Solano Grand EC: Routes to the CBD, Jurong and Woodlands, and How the JRL and Downtown Line Extension Change Them

By Davis Ng · · Updated

If you are weighing Solano Grand at Senja Close against your daily trip to work, the useful question is not just which station is closest. It is which route gets you to the CBD, to Jurong or to Woodlands, and how those routes change as new rail lines open. This guide walks through each trip using LTA's published plans. It does not give door-to-door times. Those depend on your departure time and on the gate positions, which CDL has not yet announced.

Where your trip starts

The nearest station is Jelapang on the Bukit Panjang LRT, about 300 m in a straight line from the edge of the site. Senja LRT is about 650 m away, and Bukit Panjang MRT on the Downtown Line is about 1.0 to 1.1 km to the south. These are straight-line distances from HDB's location plan and OneMap station points, not walking routes. The location page has the full map.

That gives most households two ways to start a rail trip: take the LRT from Jelapang, or get to Bukit Panjang town centre on foot or by bus and board there. Bukit Panjang is one of LTA's 15 integrated bus interchanges, linked to the MRT station and the adjoining mall, so a bus-to-train transfer is also an option.

To the CBD: the Downtown Line from Bukit Panjang

Bukit Panjang is where the Downtown Line starts. LTA says the line gives Bukit Panjang residents a more direct route into the city and cuts travel time by up to 30 per cent. It runs through the city centre and on to the east.

  • Via the LRT: Jelapang LRT to Bukit Panjang LRT station, then change to the Downtown Line. On OneMap, the LRT and Downtown Line stations at Bukit Panjang are about 200 m apart in a straight line.
  • Direct to the MRT: walk or take a bus about 1 km south to Bukit Panjang MRT and board the Downtown Line there. This skips the LRT leg.

Since the Downtown Line starts at Bukit Panjang, you board at the first station. Test both options at your real morning departure time before you decide.

To Jurong: Choa Chu Kang today, the Jurong Region Line from 2028

LTA describes the Bukit Panjang LRT as linking Bukit Panjang and Choa Chu Kang estates to the North-South and Downtown Lines. For Jurong, the change point is Choa Chu Kang, about 2 km in a straight line west of the site. Take the LRT from Jelapang to Choa Chu Kang, then the North-South Line south towards Jurong East.

The Jurong Region Line (JRL) will add a second option at the same station. LTA's plan for the JRL:

StageLTA targetWhat it connects
Stage 1 (JRL West)2028Choa Chu Kang to Boon Lay and Tawas, with interchanges at Choa Chu Kang (North-South Line and Bukit Panjang LRT) and Boon Lay (East-West Line)
Stage 2 (JRL East)2028Tengah to Pandan Reservoir, with an interchange at Jurong East
Stage 32029Extension into NTU and towards Jurong Pier

Once Stage 1 opens, a Solano Grand resident heading to Jurong Industrial Estate, or to NTU after Stage 3, could change from the LRT to the JRL at Choa Chu Kang. LTA notes that both areas have no MRT line today. For Jurong East itself, the North-South Line from Choa Chu Kang remains the direct route. These are LTA's target years and can change.

To Woodlands and the north: North-South Line now, Downtown Line extension by 2035

Today, the rail route north also goes through Choa Chu Kang: LRT from Jelapang, then the North-South Line northbound.

LTA's Downtown Line 2 Extension (DTL2e) will add a second route. It continues the Downtown Line past Bukit Panjang to a new station on Sungei Kadut Avenue (DE1). It then ends at a new interchange (DE2) linked to a new North-South Line station (NS6) between Yew Tee and Kranji. LTA lists three stations over 4 km, with completion expected in 2035. When it opens, a commuter boarding at Bukit Panjang could reach the North-South Line further north without going through Choa Chu Kang. Until then, plan around the current route.

The Bukit Panjang LRT renewal

Since most of these trips start on the LRT, its reliability matters. LTA says renewal works on the line's trains, track and signalling began in 2018 and are expected to be completed by 2026. To support the works, LRT services ended earlier, at 10.30pm from Thursday to Sunday, between 14 November 2024 and 31 October 2025. If you often travel late, check LTA's current service notices rather than relying on that past schedule.

Driving

HDB's location plan shows the Kranji Expressway running along the north side of the site, beyond the Bukit Panjang North Park Connector. Being next to an expressway does not mean easy access to it. The car park entrance and the nearest slip roads depend on the final site plan, which CDL has not yet announced. Drivers should test the trip to their workplace once the gate positions are known. North-facing units will be the ones that look towards the expressway.

A commuting checklist for your household

  • List each adult's workplace and each child's school, then match each one to a route above: Downtown Line, LRT to Choa Chu Kang, or car.
  • Do one test trip at your real departure time from the Senja Close area, both from Jelapang LRT and from Bukit Panjang MRT.
  • If you work in Jurong or Woodlands, note which new line (JRL from 2028, DTL2e by 2035) would change your route, and judge the home on today's route first.
  • Once CDL releases the site plan, check which stacks sit nearest the gate you would use and how they face. Layouts will appear on the floor plans page.

Transport plans do not tell you anything about price, availability or completion dates. For pricing updates, see the price page. To register your interest and ask about gate positions in person, use the showflat page.
